South Pole is a leading carbon project expert and climate consultancy, we advise project partners and developers in designing, registering and monitoring their carbon credit programs.


As a Business Development &
Key Account Manager - Certificates, your main responsibility is to work with and to grow a portfolio of strategic clients as well as to proactively and independently expand South Poles certificates business in line with the new voluntary carbon market (VCM) requirements in your region by acquiring new clients.


You will support the biggest companies to solve the climate crisis, advising on best fit solutions, acting as the main interface between our certificate solutions and our clients, informing the commercial strategy for your region.


Working closely with the upstream project teams, you will receive intensive training to perform as a Commercial Carbon Market Expert that is well equipped to sell a wide range of certificates solutions, to investable projects and funds.




Main Responsibilities


  • Develop and execute sales strategies in close cooperation with your line manager and solutions experts. Deliver on the strategies and achieve Revenue and Gross Profit targets/budgets.
  • Bring to market a large suite of products such as carbon credits and Energy Attribution Certificates spot deals, fund solutions, long term offtakes, investments in projects and carbon credit advisory. Identify opportunities for cross selling within certificate solutions (carbon credits,Energy Attribution Certificates) as well as advisory solutions.
  • Qualify opportunities, build and maintain a sales pipeline, lead prospect conversations, manage client meetings, prepare and deliver compelling sales presentations, lead contract negotiations, and close business to secure revenues.
  • Engage in business development activities such as in-person meetings, conferences, events and summits, represent and position South Pole in the region.
  • Work in close collaboration with our existing certificate clients on their climate transition roadmap, understand their needs and match them to South Pole certificates offering, develop Account Plans and execute them.
  • Stay on top of climate trends and develop in-depth knowledge of competitors, clients, and market dynamics.
  • Provide accurate sales forecasts and reports to management, keep a clean pipeline record.
  • Participate in training sessions to build up required skills set to sell and advise clients on a broad range of solutions to successfully operate in the new VCM, anticipating upcoming regulations while complying with existing ones, sharing experiences and knowledge across teams and across the regions


Essential Profile Requirements


  • University degree in Sustainability and/or Business related discipline
  • At least 5 years of proven business development and sales experience with a high preference in the sustainability field (renewable energy or carbon markets), corporate responsibility, sustainable development and/or climate change)
  • Track record in meeting and exceeding sales targets
  • Understanding of the business drivers behind corporate climate actions and initiatives (eg SBT, RE100, carbon neutrality) and the ability to formulate a business case
  • Strong drive for results, action-oriented, with self-direction and sense of urgency
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and think out of the box
  • Critical thinking and decision-making skills with strong business and commercial acumen
  • Ability to successfully navigate complexity and effectively deal with ambiguity
  • Excellent English skills, any other languages is a plus
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced international environment
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, sense of responsibility and willingness to take initiative


Desirable Profile Requirements


  • Advanced skills in G-Suite applications
  • Experience using Salesforce
