new offer (18/05/2024)

job description

The Institute for Digital Molecular Analytics and Science (IDMxS) invites applications for the position of Research Fellow.
The Institute for Digital Molecular Analytics and Science (IDMxS) is a new, unique interdisciplinary Research Centre of Excellence (RCE), funded by Ministry of Education (Singapore), Nanyang Technological University and National University of Singapore. Hosted by NTU in partnership with NUS, IDMxS is the world's first organized effort focused on interfacing the biological and living world with the world of information technology and data science whilst providing fundamental scientific development, grounded in materials science, optics, and interfacial chemistry.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Study underlying statistical properties of different digital assays and quantify mutual information content (and other related metrics) of sensing/assay derived signals in relation to analyte concentration/biological activity/disease progression.
  • Develop robust classification and decision-making algorithms for diagnostics and sensing employing concepts from statistical detection and estimation theory.
  • Investigate cooperative effects, multimodal data fusion and leveraging of signal correlations for improved accuracy/sensitivity and quantify information gains obtainable through such strategies.
  • Model effects of noise in digital molecular assay systems and its consequences on diagnostic accuracy and precision, for example, using Fisher information.

As part of the role, the Research Fellow will also be expected to:

  • Perform literature reviews and stay up to date on developments in the field.
  • Disseminate results through publication in top-tier journals and conference presentations.
  • Contribute to research administration and assist in grant writing as required.
  • Supervise PhD and undergraduate student projects as required.

Job Requirements:

  • PhD Degree in Mathematics/Computer Science/Physics/Engineering or related disciplines.
  • Programming Experience:
Proficient knowledge of Python, MATLAB or C.
  • Excellent knowledge in information theory.
