job description

The Singapore Institute for Clinical Sciences (SICS), part of A*STAR, invites applications for a Scientist (Research Fellow) position in Statistics. The project focuses on methodological and computational contributions in Statistics, in particular within the Bayesian framework. Specifcally, the candidate will work on the analysis of data obtained from multiple questionnaires measuring several markers of child behaviour and executive function. Moreover, the complex interplay with maternal mental health will be explored by integrating data from different, but related, sources.

The Biostatistics group within SICS works in close contact with clinical and biomedical researchers across Institutes of higher learning. Motivating applications arise from cohort studies such as GUSTO (Growing Up in Singapore Towards healthy Outcomes) and S-PRESTO (Singapore PREconception Study of Long-Term Maternal and Child Outcome), and the NUS Human Potential Translational Research Programme. Appointment will be on a 2-year contract.
Qualifications.
The applicant should:

  • hold a PhD in Statistics or closely related field (essential)
  • possess a good knowledge of Bayesian inference and Bayesian computational tools such as MCMC and SMC (desirable)
  • programming skills in R and one of C/C++ or equivalent
  • experience of working in a research environment
