Systems Programmer
job description
The Systems Programmer is responsible for monitoring and evaluation of all aspects of z-platform performance, including investigation of CPU utilization, Coupling Facility activity, database, application, and Storage performance issues, as well as the monitoring, support, maintenance, and enhancement of all aspects of the z-platform DASD storage &
tape environment. The candidate will work closely within a team of storage, programming, performance, and hardware engineers, to provide technical support for all processing and storage management related projects and activities. The candidate will act as a liaison with application and other infrastructure teams on all technical matters related to systems performance and storage management.
Skills Required:
- Advanced experience as a Systems Programming and Performance Engineer / Capacity Planner / Storage Engineer managing Mainframe Processing, Storage / DASD &
Tape, in a multi CEC, multi LPAR, multi SYSPLEX, z-platform environment. - Expert Level knowledge of z/OS internals, z/OS system software, IBM Utilities, JES, ISPF, JCL, DADSM, ICF Catalogs, VSAM, VSAM/RLS, Mainframe Security, Data Replication, SMF data collection and reporting, Data transfer - Connect Direct/NDM/ftp, zLINUX.
- Knowledge of the following:
IBM mainframe, Internal and External Coupling Facility, IBM and EMC DASD storage and tape subsystems - Configure vendor software as outlined in their technical instructions for software applications and the operating system
- Excellent testing and reporting skills
- Experience with design of tests to validate software functionality, robustness, performance, as well as environmental health and stability
- Experience with real time trouble shooting of performance issues in a z/OS environment
- Advanced skills in one or more of the following:
SAS, REXX, SQL - Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
- Strong experience with SMS(DFSMS), DFHSM, DFDSS, RMM
- Knowledge of IBM DS8K, TS77* and EMC VMAX/PowerMax family hardware.
- Strong written and verbal English language communication skills.
- The ability to effectively interface with hardware and software vendors.
- Weekend work and on-call coverage is required.
Skills desired:
- Strong knowledge of IBM Workload Manager (WLM), RMF Monitor III, RMF Post Processor, RMF Performance Data Portal, Omegamon, Epilog, Ca-MICS, TDS/IzPCA, COGNOS, Ca-SYSVIEW, Ironstream, SPLUNK, DVM
- Advanced use of SAS, MXG, CA-MICS, REXX, and SQL
- Experience with CA-Sysview
- Experience with SyncSort
- Familiarity with SPLUNK Reporting, Ironstream, DVM
- Familiarity with IBM Tivoli Decision Support (TDS), IzPCA, COGNOS
- Familiarity with IBM SCRT (IBM Country Wide Multiplex Pricing (CMP), Tailored Fit Pricing (TFP) a plus)
- Experience with tuning an environment with Natural/Adabas, COBOL
- Familiarity with IBM Allocation Optimizer, Ca-Allocate, Ca-Vantage(SAMS), FDR/ABR, zEDC Compression, Catalog Recovery Plus/Advanced Catalog Management(ACM)
- Knowledge of IBM TS7000 and Dell/EMC DLm virtual tape, RMM, TLMS
- Experience with mainframe data replication and migration software and technology from IBM (Global Mirror, Copy Services Manager (CSM) a plus) and EMC (SRDF/A, GDDR, Autoswap a plus), FDRPAS
- Familiarity with data migration and hardware refresh techniques.
- Familiarity with site swap and disaster recovery testing and procedures.
- Familiarity with Dell/EMC UNISPHERE
- Working knowledge of IDCAMS, IBM DS CLI, Perl, .NET
- Understanding of SMF record types as related to data statistics, RMF reporting
